On Fire: Faith and Fitness

Yesterday, we celebrated Ascension Sunday. (Some Christians celebrated it earlier on Thursday.) Ascension day is the celebration of our Lord Jesus leaving Planet Earth and ascending into Heaven, taking his seat next to God, our Father, in the Heavenly court. A great day to rejoice and so I want to share somewhat old but still joyous news. On May 22nd, Jennie and I, along with some members of our wonderful team - Marilyn, Christie, Nancy - officially launched our new ministry On Fire: Faith and Fitness at Open Space, the Presbytery of Los Ranchos Gathering. I am very grateful to these friends who were present and must also thank two other members of our SoCal team and across the globe besides two other friends who prayed for us so faithfully: Larry, Shanti, Don, Marcy, Arlene and Lucy. I'm particularly indebted to a few members of The Unknowns too - Bruce, Ron and Don - who allowed me to practice on them, impromptu, no technology, the day before Open Space and filled in many blank spots! If I missed naming any other awesome helpers, please forgive me! I had planned to present at only one of the two Open Space sessions but I ended up presenting at both. Many thanks to all the people who participated and gave such excellent feedback too at Open Space. Jennie and I'd invited you to help us shape On Fire Faith ad Fitness together and you're doing that indeed. Here's some details.

On Fire is an integrated faith and fitness program and partnership. We nurture heart-soul-body-mind strength through physical and spiritual exercises, disciplines of devotion I call them. These Bible-based habits of the heart bring God’s grace 24/7 into our daily lives in Southern California. We share a common thread with Pravaham Community College in rural south India with whom we are building a partnership. Our Scriptural mandate comes from Hebrews 12. 29 - For our God is a consuming fire... and from Jesus' commandment in the Gospels. Asked what is the greatest commandment, according to Luke 10.27, Jesus replied Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.

Below is the most recent post from our blog at (enfeu is the french word for On Fire and comes from one of our two primary Scriptures: Our God is a consuming fire - we hope to share the thrilling story of how God gave Jennie and me this name for our ministry):

I'm delighted to share with you a copy of our presentation:On Fire: Faith and Fitness at PLR Open Space, May 22nd, 2014. Enjoy!

Three short movie clips accompanied the presentation. Additionally, we led our participants in chair-based exercises along with lectio. We're sad we cannot share the movies with you online. Just drop me a line and come home if you want to see them. Thanks.
