Lent: A Time of Reflection - Irvine Pres.

I really like what came from my Irvine Pres. church pastor today about Lent. I am sharing it below so as to encourage you and remind myself: Lent is not just about giving up something, it's more consciously giving to God. May He bless and guide our Lenten journeys this year.
Lent:  A Time of Reflection

The season of Lent began with Ash Wednesday, on February 13, and lasts for 40 days, not including Sundays, concluding with Christ’s resurrection celebration on Easter Sunday, March 31.

Lent is generally a solemn time to acknowledge that our bodies are frail and will quickly turn to dust upon our death. This is also a time many people associate with ‘giving up’ something they enjoy eating, drinking or doing.  But Lent is also a time for us to ‘give to’ God our hearts, our attention, and our focus.  When we turn away from sin and toward Jesus, we receive grace and mercy, hope and salvation, in a fallen world.

During our worship services throughout Lent we have included gospel readings that teach us about the character of Jesus as he did God’s work during his life on earth.  We will reflect on how to apply those teachings to our lives, in obedience to the Holy Spirit, so that we may be equipped to follow Jesus with confidence, knowing that God has a plan and will be faithful to complete it.

Continue with us on Our Lenten Journey as we draw nearer to our Lord in anticipation of his death and resurrection.  Please read, below, about IPC’s Lenten and Easter Celebration Services:
